beyoundself is a student-initiated charity organization for children suffering from autism
is a play-on word based on "Beyond." However, there is a "u." The reason for this is because I wanted to include the word "Be you." Hence, Be-You-Nd.
came along into the name because of Carl Jung's theories for the Model for the Psyche. The figure on the left shows that "SELF" is the model's center. In this theory, Jung believed that the Psyche is a self-regulating system. The Psyche desires to maintain a balance between opposing qualities while simultaneously seeking internal development. This process revolves around the self, which Jung calls "the process of individuation."
is relevant to the objective of this organization because autistic people have trouble expressing themselves as they are typically agonized and stigmatized as "mannerless." By including the word "self," we are helping raise awareness and promoting autistic people to find their own individuality.
Therefore, beyoundself is about expressing what is beyond what a person thinks of themselves and how others think of them, enabling them to seek opposing qualities to help their internal personal development—the process of individuation. In addition, by thinking about what is beyond a person, they are more effectively trying to be their most authentic self, which helps promote the “be you” message.
